Job summary

Summit Care in Ames, IA seeks a Speech-Language Pathologist to provide evaluations, screenings, and treatments for patients with speech, language, swallowing, cognition, or voice disorders.

The SLP will follow established care plans, document therapy progress, and collaborate with caregivers and facility staff to ensure high-quality care in accordance with state regulations. Clinical leadership, effective communication, and commitment to quality are essential.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of an accredited Speech-Language Pathology Program
• Valid Speech-Language Pathology License to practice in appropriate state(s)
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Effective leadership and customer relations skills
• Ability to exercise mature judgment with initiative in analyzing and solving problems

Responsibilities

• Assures execution of doctor’s orders
• Evaluates and treats disorders including motor speech, language, voice, cognitive deficits, and dysphagia
• Develops and implements treatment plans with functional, measurable outcomes
• Oversees and maintains therapy records
• Ensures availability of supplies and equipment
• Maintains appropriate patient schedules per guidelines
• Provides documentation to support medical records accuracy and billing
• Participates in patient, family, and facility meetings
• Follows policies including emergency procedures, infection control, and safety
• Coordinates training for facility staff, residents, families, and rehab staff
• Initiates new program development to improve residents’ quality of life
• Participates in continuous quality improvement
• Must be able to assist with patient transport as needed
• Able to walk, bend, stand, and reach during shift
• Performs other related duties as required
