Job summary

Abilities First, Inc. in Po ughkeepsie, NY is seeking a Substitute Special Education Teacher for our LaGrange School program.

You will assess student needs, plan curricula, and coordinate classroom support to carry over therapy goals into the classroom setting and ensure collaboration with related service staff. The schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–3:30 pm, 35 hours per week, 48 weeks per year (summer program included).

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Special Education with NYS Teaching Certification or Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education with NYS Provisional Certification and graduate coursework.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English for regulatory documentation.
• Experience with IEPs and coordinating classroom support within an integrated services model.

Responsibilities

• Assess each student’s current level of performance using standardized and non-standardized tools.
• Plan and implement individualized instructional programs aligned to student needs.
• Write IEPs, progress notes, and weekly lesson plans.
• Organize a safe, structured classroom environment and coordinate staff.
• Assist in supervision and mobility training to increase student independence.
• Coordinate related services and push-in therapy within the classroom.
