Job summary

North Slope Borough School District is seeking Special Education Paraprofessionals to support students with special needs under the supervision of Special Education Teachers. Paraprofessionals provide essential support to ensure a free and appropriate public education for eligible students.

The role is tied to intensive level funding and may involve reassignment as students or funding change. A high school diploma is required, with options including an associate’s degree or PAT; foreign degrees

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must meet one of three criteria: associate’s degree or higher, two years of college (48 semester hours), or PAT.
• Foreign degree requires transcript evaluation by a foreign transcript evaluation service.
• Six hours of annual special education training.
• Inupiaq-speaking and cultural experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist intensive level multiple disability students during the school day.
• Assist assigned students in physical tasks and personal hygiene, including feeding and toileting.
• Assist teachers in instructional supportive services.
• Instruct small groups and tutor students one-on-one.
• Prepare instructional material and supplies for student use.
• Report accidents or incidents promptly and adhere to district policies.
