Job summary

Élan Academy is seeking a Special Education Resource Teacher to provide direct, specialized instruction and IEP case management for scholars in grades 3 through 8. This role covers our Lower School (grades 3–4) and Upper School (grades 5–8) and ensures each scholar with an IEP receives individualized, high-quality instruction to access the curriculum and meet learning outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university.
  • Preferred Louisiana Teaching Certificate: Special Education.
  • 2+ years of experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Embodies Élan Academy’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Participates in annual summer staff orientation and training.
  • Collaborates with scholars, parents, and staff to develop Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Implements instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program for assigned scholars and maintains required documentation.
  • Plans and uses appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment to reflect scholars’ learning styles and needs.
  • Works with classroom teachers to modify curricula and assist special education scholars in regular classes.
  • Consults with paraeducators on behavior management per IEP; presents material per IEP guidelines.
  • Conducts ongoing assessments of student achievement via formal and informal testing; maintains reports and records.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and supports scholars’ development.
  • Manages scholar behavior and administers discipline according to IEP; intervenes in crises as needed.
  • Keeps informed of and complies with regulations and policies for special education; completes reporting requirements.
  • Uses iReady, DIBLES, LEAP and Élan Interim Assessment data to guide instructional decisions and monitor growth.
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance at the worksite.

Education

Bachelor's Degree
Louisiana Special Education teaching certificate (preferred)
