Job summary

Juneau School District seeks a Support Staff/Special Education Paraeducator to work primarily with students in BEST, DEC-C, DEC, or Transitions programs. The role involves presenting material to improve reading, writing, math, computers and vocational skills, and may include one-on-one or small-group instruction.

This 9-month, full-time position (0.9333 FTE) pays $27.40 per hour and offers medical, dental, vision, PERS retirement and paid time off.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Prior experience with school-age children preferred.
• CPR, first aid and district-approved behavior management techniques may be required; includes de-escalation and crisis handling.
• Valid Alaska driver's license required.
• AA degree, or 48 semester hours, or pass WorkKeys exam (support available).

Responsibilities

• Works with students in special education programs (BEST/DEC-C/DEC/Transitions).
• Presents material and activities to improve reading, writing, math, computers and vocational skills.
• Works individually or in small groups.
• Records grades and collects data on student progress or behavior.
