Job summary

The City of Pasadena is seeking a dependable Program Coordinator I to support the Resource Recovery & Recycling Division within the Public Works Department. The role focuses on administrating and coordinating environmental programs such as waste reduction initiatives and special events.

The ideal candidate will have experience in environmental recycling programs, knowledge of California recycling mandates, and strong communication skills to liaise with the public and city staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration (or related field) and two years of professional experience in resource recovery or environmental compliance.
• Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local Environmental Laws and California recycling mandates.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, coordinate and evaluate activities of programs in the City’s Zero Waste Strategic Plan (Pay As You Throw, backyard composting, business recycling, organics recycling, special events).
• Write, implement, and modify the City’s recycling programs as needed.
• Facilitate public meetings, coordinate contractors, gather data, review work products.
• Develop meeting agendas, tasks, and budget information for environmental programs.
• Supervise large special events, including staff scheduling, permits and site plans.
• Prepare and analyze recycling data and reports for the City and other agencies.
