Job summary

The Missouri Public Defender System (MSPD) seeks a Public Defender Trial Attorney in Gladstone to provide zealous representation to indigent clients across Missouri. You will handle all phases of criminal matters, build client relationships, conduct investigations, and appear in court.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice in Missouri, or awaiting results, or transferring a license.
• Strong communication and advocacy skills.

Responsibilities

• Advocate for clients with zealous, high-quality representation throughout all criminal matters.
• Conduct thorough investigations, including interviews and review of law enforcement materials.
• Keep clients informed about investigations, negotiations, and rulings.
• Attend court dockets and effectively litigate; handle dispositions at trial level.
• Prepare motions, pleadings, and briefs for hearings and trials.
• Prepare clients, witnesses, and case materials for trial.
• Collaborate with colleagues and participate in continuing legal education (CLE).
