Responsibilities

• Following Lesson Plans: Substitute teachers are expected to follow the lesson plans provided by the regular teacher, ensuring continuity in student learning.
• Classroom Management: Maintaining a positive and orderly learning environment is crucial, including keeping students engaged and on task.
• Student Supervision: Substitute teachers are responsible for supervising students during class time, in hallways, and potentially on the playground or in the cafeteria.
• Communication: Communicating with school staff and parents about student behavior and performance is sometimes required.
• Other Duties: Depending on the situation, substitute teachers may also be assigned other tasks, such as assisting with non‑classroom duties.
• Long‑Term Substitutions: In some cases, substitute teachers may be assigned for extended periods, requiring them to develop their own lesson plans and adapt to different teaching styles and subjects as well as grade assignments, monitor student progress, and provide feedback to the regular teacher.
