Job summary

USAO in Buffalo, NY seeks a Paralegal II to support attorneys by organizing documents, tracking subpoenas, and preparing drafts for signature. The role emphasizes strong legal research, meticulous document handling, and timely communication in a government setting.

You will conduct legal research, maintain calendars, input case materials, and liaise with client agencies under supervision. Citizenship and a background check are required.

Qualifications

• Paralegal Certificate or HS Diploma with 3+ years of paralegal experience.
• At least 2 years of legal or administrative experience.
• Familiarity with computerized litigation support is helpful.
• Solid knowledge of a standard legal citation system for basic research.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and knowledge of legal research tools.
• Hands-on experience with word processing, databases, spreadsheets and telecommunications.

Responsibilities

• Assist attorneys with organizing and tracking documents and correspondence, including productions and investigations.
• Maintain calendars for USAO staff and provide deadlines/meeting reminders.
• Perform searches to locate potential witnesses.
• Review documents such as medical/financial records and other data.
• Prepare initial drafts of correspondence and proposed orders for attorney signature.
• Scan/input case materials into electronic databases and ensure proper formatting.
