Job summary

Great Oaks Legacy Charter School in Newark, NJ is seeking a dynamic Middle School Special Education ELA Teacher to join our instructional team for the 2026-27 academic year. You will teach grades 5–8 and lead data-driven instruction in a high-expectation, college-preparatory environment.

The role reports to School Director(s) with coaching from instructional coaches and DCIs. A competitive salary with robust benefits is offered, along with opportunities to contribute to curriculum development

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from a competitive college or university; GPA must meet minimum requirements for NJ DOE certification.
• Evidence of NJ Department of Education certification (CE/CEAS/Provisional/Standard) or out of state certification.
• Demonstrated mastery of content knowledge and ability to drive student growth.
• Prior teaching experience in an urban No Excuses school setting strongly preferred.
• Extremely strong classroom management abilities.
• Experience developing curriculum or potential to lead curricular development is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver rigorous ELA instruction to grades 5–8.
• Execute year-long lesson plans aligned to a school-wide plan.
• Track and respond to student learning through data analysis and targets.
• Collaborate with School Director and teachers to refine curriculum based on assessments.
• Build relationships with students and maintain an orderly, respectful classroom.
• Supervise students during lunch and transitions.
• Maintain high expectations and communicate the importance of work.
