Job summary

Mission Hospital McDowell in Marion, North Carolina, is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform routine and complex analyses on blood, tissue, and body fluids with minimal supervision.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field, ASCP certification (or registry eligibility), and typically an MLS-level qualification. Preferred MLS certification and a rotation-based training background accompany the position.

Qualifications

• Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field from an accredited institution.
• Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science from an accredited institution.
• Required Certification: ASCP Certification or equivalent certification by a nationally recognized board/agency as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
• If not certified at time of hire, must be registry eligible and become certified by ASCP (or equivalent nationally recognized board/agency).
• Employees hired before Oct 1, 2016 who were not certified may be exempt if they meet CLIA qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and complex lab analyses and/or identification procedures on blood, tissue, and body fluids with minimal supervision.
• Assists management in monitoring quality control data to ensure results or procedures are accurate and precise.
