News Reporter-York, NE

The York News-Times is seeking a journalist with the ability to cover a wide variety of topics, including local news and features. One day you may interview the family of a crime victim, another day cover a business opening or react at the drop of a hat to cover a fire, accident, natural disaster or local government issue. This is true local journalism where you can make an impact on the community. The people of York care deeply about their newspaper.

You may be called upon to report for other central Nebraska Lee properties as needed. Core responsibilities include writing stories for digital and print, taking videos and photos and optimizing content for the web and social media to engage and grow our digital subscriber base.

If you are able to write clearly, develop sources and can take initiative to find stories, this may be the role for you. The successful candidate will be proficient in reporting and writing according to AP style, photography, videography and digital platforms.

Preference will be given to candidates with a journalism degree, although internships and experience will be considered.New graduates/journalists are welcome to apply. The York News-Times provides an opportunity for journalists to learn and grow. This position includes some night and weekend hours. The ability to produce timely reports in today’s instant digital news environment is a must.
