Job summary

Harnett County Schools seeks a responsible Waste Facility Operator to ensure all Solid Waste Management facilities meet local, state, and federal requirements. You will perform grounds maintenance, operate landfill equipment, conduct waste screenings, and support transfer stations, with Saturday rotation in some weeks.

The role requires a high school diploma, NC CDL, and training in Solid Waste Screening and SWANA Operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two (2) years of related experience.
• Or equivalent education and/or experience.
• Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.
• Possession (or obtain within required time frame) a valid NC commercial driver’s license (CDL).
• Completion of Solid Waste Screening and SWANA Landfill Operations training.
• Possession of a Certification of Waste Management and Waste Management Transfer is desired.

Responsibilities

• Open and close facilities as needed.
• Drive and operate light equipment (lawn mowers, weed eaters, tractors).
• Mow and maintain landfill acreage and caps.
• Maintain grounds and landscaping; pick up trash.
• Pave and cover loads; haul dirt for covering trash.
• Transport and load materials on trailers; separate recyclables.
• Support other staff during breaks and non-operational periods.
• Observe waste being dumped and report prohibited materials.
• Assist at transfer station cleaning floors and loading trailers.
• Perform related duties and load/unload recyclable materials.
