Job summary

Southwood Psychiatric Hospital in Pittsburgh is seeking dedicated K-12 Special Education Teachers to join our team and support students with special needs.

You will develop individualized education plans, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and provide engaging instruction across subjects while maintaining a compassionate, standards-based classroom environment.

Requires valid teacher certification and at least one year in special or alternative education.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education or related field eligible for teacher certification
• Minimum 1 year of experience in Special Education or Alternative Education
• Current teaching certification or eligible for certification in the state

Responsibilities

• Teach students essential academic, social, and developmental skills across multiple subjects.
• Foster physical, mental, and social growth in a supportive learning environment.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to create individualized education plans meeting each student’s needs.
• Identify educational needs and develop formal education plans or programs.
• Observe and evaluate student progress, helping to improve abilities and address weaknesses.
• Teach and mentor students individually or in groups; communicate progress with families and counselors.
