Job summary

Southwood Psychiatric Hospital is seeking a K-12 Special Education teacher to float among residential programs in the Pittsburgh area. The role involves creating individualized plans, delivering instruction, and supporting students with diverse learning needs.

The position requires a teaching credential in the state, CPR and de-escalation/restraint training, and a strong commitment to safety and collaborative care for children and adolescents.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education or related field eligible for teacher certification.
• CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required.
• First aid certification may be required depending on state or facility.
• Current certification or license to teach within the state where the facility is located.

Responsibilities

• Identify students' educational needs and develop formal educational plans.
• Create lesson plans and teach students in one or more subjects.
• Observe students to evaluate abilities, strengths, and weaknesses.
• Teach and mentor students individually, in groups, or as a class.
• Communicate progress with families, counselors, administrators, and teachers.
• Prepare students for standardized tests as required by state.
• Document educational plans, goals, and progress.
• Supervise classrooms and enforce rules and policies.
• Participate in treatment team meetings and adhere to treatment plans.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Education or related field eligible for teacher certification

CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification

Current state teaching license/certification
