  • Valid Texas certificate with required special education endorsements for assignments
  • Semi-Annual Certification (Periodic Certification) for Single Cost Objective employees
  • Ability to work effectively with school and community population
  • Knowledge of ARD Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with students, parents, and other staff to develop IEP through the ARD Committee process for each student assigned.
  • Implement instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies reflecting understanding of students’ learning styles and needs.
  • Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula and assist special education students in regular classes.
  • Participate in ARD Committee meetings regularly.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan for instructional activities.
  • Present subject matter according to IEP guidelines.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet needs of each student.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Use technology in teaching/learning process.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Provide or supervise personal care and feeding of students as stated in IEP.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities and sponsor approved activities.
  • Be a positive role model and support the district’s mission.
  • Create a conducive classroom environment for development.
  • Manage student behavior and discipline per IEP; intervene in crises as needed.
  • Consult with teachers on behavior management per IEP.
  • Consult district and outside resources on education and student needs.
  • Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selection of instructional materials.
  • Maintain open communication with parents and staff.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues and community.
  • Communicate information clearly and accurately.
  • Participate in staff development to improve skills.
  • Stay compliant with regulations for special education teachers.
  • Compile and file required reports and records.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on committees.
  • Use district safety techniques including restraint.
  • Dress and behave professionally as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in related field
