Job summary

Lawrence Public Schools is seeking a Long Term Substitute at Leahy Elementary School to maintain routines, deliver engaging lessons, and foster a safe classroom environment. In the absence of the classroom teacher, you will ensure continuity of learning and support student progress across assigned classes.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's Degree with strong English communication skills, and has experience in teaching or substitute teaching. Massachusetts licensure is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required.
• Massachusetts Licensure preferred.
• Proficiency in English (oral and written).
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with school staff and administration.
• Prior teaching or substitute teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain established routines and procedures of the assigned school and classroom.
• Create and deliver lesson plans or follow those outlined by the absent teacher.
• Implement instructional strategies that promote quality academic and social development.
• Maintain discipline and classroom control in accordance with district policies.
• Create a learning environment conducive to growth, maturity, and student interests.
• Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations.
• Demonstrate professional practices in teaching and classroom management.
• Model correct use of oral and written language.
• Protect school records, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Report student injuries, illnesses, accidents, and disciplinary issues promptly.
• Assign reasonable tasks and homework to support learning goals.
• Remain at school during the entire day unless excused by administration.
• Maintain punctuality, reliability, and professional appearance.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal or designated representative.
