Job summary

NaphCare, Inc. is seeking a Correctional Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team at the Polk County Jail in Des Moines, Iowa.

This full-time role runs from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm, and you will work alongside correctional officers and medical staff to deliver comprehensive care to a diverse, incarcerated population. You will perform physical assessments, administer medications, manage chronic conditions, respond to emergencies, and educate patients on preventive care.

Qualifications

• Active IA RN license required.
• Current BLS CPR certification required.
• Knowledge of nursing principles and safety standards.
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
• Excellent communication and organization.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Flexible schedule with possible overtime.
• Criminal background check and drug screening required.

Responsibilities

• Perform initial health screenings and physical assessments of new detainees.
• Monitor and document patient health including vitals and histories.
• Provide direct patient care, triage, care plans, coordinate services.
• Manage acute and chronic conditions (asthma, hypertension, diabetes).
• Respond to emergencies, provide first aid, arrange transport.
• Educate patients on preventive care and healthy living.
• Adhere to facility security protocols while collaborating with staff.
• Maintain accurate medical records and report relevant information.
