Job summary

NaphCare is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Des Moines, Iowa team serving the Polk County Jail. This full-time position involves working with correctional officers and medical staff to assess patients, administer medications, manage chronic conditions, and respond to emergencies in a secure environment.

Responsibilities include health screenings, vital signs monitoring, care planning, patient education, and accurate documentation.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Iowa
• BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
• Knowledge of nursing principles, safety standards, and health care laws
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Willingness to work overtime when needed
• Compliance with facility policies and background/drug screening requirements

Responsibilities

• Perform initial health screenings and physical assessments for detainees
• Monitor and document vital signs and medical histories
• Provide direct patient care, triage, assess needs, develop care plans
• Manage acute and chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, hypertension, diabetes)
• Respond to emergencies and arrange transport to facilities
• Educate patients on preventative care and healthy choices
• Maintain accurate medical records and treatment plans
• Adhere to correctional security protocols while coordinating with staff
