Job summary

Rutherford County Government is seeking an Accounting Generalist in Budget and Finance to own core accounting workflows ensuring funds are accurate, auditable, and decision-ready. You will support budget development, monitoring, and financial reporting with senior-level ownership of month-end close and audit documentation.

The role requires strong Excel skills, familiarity with ERP systems, and a solid understanding of GAAP.

Qualifications

• Strong Excel skills and experience with financial systems/ERPs.
• Knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and reporting discipline.
• Clear communicator with a problem-solver mindset and high integrity.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and reconcile general ledger activity; research and resolve variances.
• Support Budget development, monitoring, and forecast updates.
• Prepare journal entries, schedules, and recurring Finance reports.
• Assist with month-end/year-end close and audit documentation.
• Partner with departments to improve controls, accuracy, and timeliness.
