Job summary

Metropolitan Family Services in Chicago is hiring a full-time Government Affairs & Policy Associate to join our HQ Team. The role focuses on engaging policymakers and building coalitions to advance our public policy agenda, with a starting salary in the $60,000–$65,000 range based on experience.

Key duties include coordinating advocacy initiatives, developing policy communications, and maintaining relationships with officials and stakeholders across state and federal levels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public policy, public administration, social work, or related field.
• Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience/training in public policy, government affairs, advocacy, or nonprofit public sector engagement.
• Strong understanding of legislative and regulatory processes at the federal, state, and local levels.

Responsibilities

• Execute agency initiatives to engage and influence government decision-makers in support of agency objectives.
• Assist in development and implementation of project management processes.
• Coordinate and assist with Government Affairs & Policy projects through lifecycle including proposals, progress, research, and admin support.
• Build and maintain relationships with elected officials, agencies, coalitions, partners, and stakeholders.
• Serve as liaison between Government Affairs & Policy Department and Community Centers and attend meetings and events.
• Develop specialized communications related to Government Affairs & Policy, advocacy, governance and initiatives, including policy agenda, fact sheets, talking points, and correspondence.
• Write and distribute advocacy newsletters and alerts using advocacy software.
• Promote the agency’s legislative advocacy agenda; monitor legislation and advise leadership; represent the agency in activities.
