Job summary

Center on Budget and Policy Priorities in Washington, DC is seeking a Research Assistant/Associate to support health and housing policy analytics with quantitative analysis, data wrangling in Stata and Excel, and preparation of tables and visuals for CBPP papers and blogs.

The role reports to the Vice President for Data Analysis and Research and offers a hybrid schedule, competitive benefits, and opportunities to contribute to economic and racial justice through policy research and communication.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with quantitative coursework.
  • Advanced degree in economics, public policy, statistics, or related field; or a bachelor’s plus two years of relevant experience.
  • Strong quantitative skills and fluency with data manipulation in Excel and statistical software (Stata, R, Python).
  • Excellent research skills and ability to summarize findings in writing.
  • Commitment to CBPP’s mission and to economic and racial justice.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze data to evaluate health and housing policies across populations and states.
  • Extract, clean, transform, and analyze data using Stata and Excel; document sources and methods.
  • Prepare tables, graphs, and visuals for CBPP papers, blogs, and presentations.
  • Monitor trends in health insurance coverage, program enrollment and costs.
  • Collaborate with health and housing policy experts to interpret findings.
  • Contribute to analytic papers, policy briefs, blogs, and memos; opportunities to author sections.
  • Assist with data requests from CBPP colleagues and partners.
  • Apply an equity lens to all work; collaborate across teams.
  • Perform other duties to support team goals.
