Job summary

American Progress is seeking a Research Assistant for its Economic Policy team to support policy research on affordability, economic mobility, and growth. The role combines research (about 70%) with operational support (about 30%), requiring strong writing, organization, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

The candidate will read and summarize research, analyze datasets, and assist with product development from scoping to publication, reporting to the Director

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
• 1–2 years of relevant professional experience.
• Ability to conduct quantitative and qualitative research with supervision.
• Strong writing and editing skills with high accuracy.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to balance multiple projects.
• Interpersonal skills and teamwork abilities.
• Familiarity with statistical software is a plus (Stata, R, SAS, Python).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Support research on key policy areas to strengthen households’ economic security and growth.
• Read and summarize existing research, review legislation and regulations, analyze datasets, and monitor policy developments.
• Assist with writing and editing op-eds, columns, issue briefs, reports, and memos.
• Schedule appointments, meetings, and conferences for staff.
• Support the development, production, and distribution of policy products.
• Provide logistical support and note-taking for department events and external meetings.
• Process invoices, contracts, and other administrative forms for the department.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
