The Baruch STEP Academy at the Research Foundation of The City University of New York is seeking an in-person High School In-Person Instructor to teach Immunology & Human Health (10:35am–12pm). The program focuses on STEM education and college preparation for local students.

You'll design engaging lessons, assess student progress, and maintain accurate records while collaborating with a dedicated team to support student growth and curiosity in science.

Qualifications

  • Availability for each program day from 10:30am-12pm.
  • Strong background in the subject area (biology).
  • Experience in a teaching capacity within the subject area.
  • Experience designing/implementing a course curriculum.
  • Strong classroom management style.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach curriculum for 20-22 students.
  • Evaluate student and group performance often.
  • Provide staff with measurable results in student learning through assessments.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate student attendance records.
  • Reassess curriculum based on students’ needs, interests, and understanding of materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Baruch STEP Academyis an academic enrichment program focusing on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and providing college preparation. Managed through the CUNY Research Foundation, we serve 200 middle and high school students throughout the city each year.

High School In-Person Instructor

Course: Immunology & Human Health | Schedule: 10:35am-12pm

Course Description: Prerequisite: Open to all | This course examines the body’s immune system and the ways it protects against disease. Students will look at the cells, organs, and molecules that defend the body from bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. This course also addresses how vaccines function, what triggers allergies, and the way autoimmune diseases develop.

Additional Information: This biology elective is designed for students interested in strengthening their science literacy skills and exploring STEM careers.

Summary of Responsibilities

Preferred:

  • Degree in biology or related subject

  • Prior teaching experience with high school or undergraduate students

  • Ability to engage students with creative lessons and innovative teaching style

  • Possess good interpersonal skills with adolescents and a strong understanding of their maturity levels

  • Enthusiasm for the subject with flexibility in adjusting curriculum to reflect students’ abilities

Pay Range

$45 hourly
