Job summary

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene invites applications for a City Medical Specialist. The role collaborates with the BOI School Compliance Unit and Surveillance Unit to review medical exemption requests and support immunization compliance among childcare and school attendees.

The specialist will assist in outbreak responses, provide clinical updates, and coordinate referrals for testing and prophylaxis, while contributing to public health surveillance and emergency

Qualifications

• Licensed MD in New York with full clinical privileges.
• Board certification in an appropriate specialty or eligible for certification.
• Master's in Public Health or equivalent with epidemiology/biostatistics exposure.

Responsibilities

• Review medical exemption requests for immunizations including medical documentation.
• Determine validity of exemptions through discussions with physicians and BOI physicians.
• Enter exemption data and describe trends in the data system Maven.
• Draft written guidance to medical providers and schools on immunization exemptions.
• Serve as medical liaison to exposure sites for guidance on contact identification and notification.
