Job summary

National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) in Chicago, IL seeks a Policy Counsel or Policy Analyst to join its policy-advocacy team. This role focuses on drafting policy documents, analyzing legislation, and developing client-centered explainers to advance immigrant rights.

Hybrid role based in NIJC's Chicago Office, reporting to the Associate Director of Government Relations, with collaboration across Washington, DC and Chicago teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; 2–3 years of relevant policy experience.
• J.D. or MPP preferred but not required.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Draft and edit policy documents, legislative text, and regulatory comments.
• Develop client stories to inform policy advocacy.
• Represent NIJC in coalitions and advocate to officials.
• Coordinate with teams in Chicago and DC.
• Review pending state and local legislation.
