Job summary

The National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) seeks a PILI Law Student Intern to gain hands-on experience across immigration matters, including asylum, removal defense, appeals, immigrant visa petitions, and youth cases. The position is hybrid with roughly two days per week in our Chicago Loop office for in-person client meetings.

Fluency in a relevant second language is strongly preferred; Spanish speakers are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in law school
• Spanish proficiency preferred for client communication
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and IT systems

Responsibilities

• Work with clients on asylum interviews and immigration court preparation
• Prepare affidavits and evidence; assist with research
• Gather country conditions information and conduct legal research
• Client contact and case management for youth representation
• Observe or participate in court proceedings when possible
