Job description

POSITION: Immigration Paralegal

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

DEPARTMENT: Paralegal

SUPERVISOR: Office Paralegal Manager

SUMMARY: Under general supervision and according to Firm policies and procedures, performs a variety of duties to assist attorneys to whom assigned. Maintains positive contact with clients and observes confidentiality of client matters. Organizes and maintains case files, pleadings, and other documents and attorney notebooks. Summarizes articles, reports, witness statements and depositions.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Substantial writing and research for employment-based filings (O-1, L-1, EB-1, H-1B).
  • Drafting waiver applications and responses to Requests for Evidence (RFEs) for attorney review.
  • Assisting attorneys with determining case strategy.
  • Managing a large volume of clients and tracking the status of filings and required documentation.
  • Gathering relevant documentation from clients.
  • Reviewing extensive case documentation received.
  • Assisting attorneys with legal research.
  • Assembling and organizing filings with government agencies.
  • Drafting legal correspondence to government agencies and clients for attorney review.
  • Preparing appropriate forms for government agencies and maintaining fully paperless file copies.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required

Candidates should possess strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication (oral and written) skills, including the willingness and ability to work directly with foreign nationals to gather information and documentation.

  • Knowledge of legal principles and practices at a level normally acquired through formal paralegal training or its equivalent.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
  • Ability to proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical or spelling errors.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate and follow the instruction of their assigned attorney and provide information to everyone with ordinary courtesy and tact.
  • Work occasionally requires a high level of mental effort and strain while organizing and maintaining multiple cases.
  • Ability to retrieve and distribute print volumes, push and pull carts and carry books weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Work occasionally requires more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Ability to travel to private and public buildings, locally and statewide, via private or public conveyance to assist attorney in attending to client needs on legal matters.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, extreme temperatures and the like.
