The Legal Aid Society’s Civil Practice seeks a Paralegal Casehandler for the New York Immigrant Family Unity Project (NYIFUP), focusing on detained removal defense. The role supports case management, data collection, and reporting while coordinating with project attorneys and social workers to serve detained and non-detained clients in immigration proceedings across Varick, Newark, and Elizabeth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
• Paralegal certificate from ABA-accredited program.
• High school diploma / GED with 4+ years of legal work experience.
• 4+ years of combined higher education and legal work experience.
• Excellent writing, verbal, and computer skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently or in a team.
• Commitment to protecting the rights of low‑income clients.

Responsabilités

• Provide basic case file and case management system maintenance.
• Enter and search data in various databases.
• Generate daily, weekly, and monthly reports from databases.
• Provide direct assistance to clients.
• Assist project attorneys with litigation tasks.
• Prepare relief applications and draft affidavits for clients.
• Coordinate with clients to gather information and documentation.
• Assist with USCIS client representation as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
