Job summary

The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee seeks a full-time Immigration Coordinator within the Center for International Education to support international students with immigration advising and document issuance. Responsibilities include maintaining DHS-SEVIS reporting, acting as the Designated School Official, coordinating employment authorization, prearrival advising, and liaising with campus departments to support student success.

• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• Citizenship or permanent residency required to serve as DSO/ARO.
• Strong written communication skills required (example in cover letter).
• Minimum of 2 years experience in a Post-Secondary academic setting.

Responsibilities

• Advise international students on immigration matters and provide counseling.
• Coordinate issuance of immigration documents (I-20s/DS-2019s) through DHS/SEVIS.
• Maintain DHS SEVIS reporting and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Coordinate prearrival advising for admitted students and respond to visa denials or changes.

Job Duties:

TheUWMCenterforInternationalEducationseeksafull-time(100%FTE)ImmigrationCoordinator (International Education Coordinator) to provide services to all international students including immigration advising and immigration document issuance.

Theindividualinthispositionispartoftheteamthatcoordinatestheuniversity’scompliancewithfederal regulations by gathering andmaintainingDepartment of Homeland Security-mandated information on international students and scholars and managingtimelyandaccuratedata reporting. This individual reports to the Director of International Student and Scholar Services.

• Individual student, faculty and staff consultations on a variety of issues including but not limited to, on and off campus employment, internship, travel, extension of government documents, authorization for less than full-time enrollment, application to Homeland Security for reinstatement to legal student status, change in education level and major, application to USCIS for change of visa status, bringing familymemberstotheU.S.,universitytransferprocedureswithintheU.S.,andstudentvisabenefitsandresponsibilities
• CoordinateprearrivaladvisingforUWMstudentadmitsonapplyingforstudentvisasandcounselstudents, familymembersand academic departments when visas are denied.

Key Job Responsibilities:

• Advises on student visa issues through individual consultations and workshops across various mediums

• Interprets and communicates student rights, responsibilities, and options related to specific requests and situations

• Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to advocate for international students, promoting their contributions to diverse communities

• Schedules logistics and secures and manages resources for various programs to support international students

• Develops programming and resource materials, within budget guidelines and across various mediums, to provide co-curricular and engagement opportunities to international students

Department: The Center for International Education (CIE) at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee advancesUWM’s global mission by supporting international students and scholars, facilitating study abroadopportunities, and building international partnerships. CIE serves as a central hub for internationaladmissions, immigration and visa advising, global learning experiences,
and cross-cultural engagement, helping students, faculty, and staff develop the knowledge and skillsneeded to succeed in an increasingly interconnected world.

Compensation: $45,000-$55,000/annually.Salarywill bedeterminedbyfinalist’sexperience, training, education, and equity-based factors.
