Job summary

Yoh, a Day & Zimmermann company, is seeking an Associate Special Effects Designer to support the design, development, prototyping, testing, documentation, and delivery of practical and technical effects for immersive environments in the entertainment industry.

The role collaborates with senior designers, engineers, and fabrication teams, blending hands-on prototyping with technical drawing and documentation to turn creative concepts into repeatable physical effects, with opportunity for travel

Qualifications

• 3+ years in special effects, technical theater, live entertainment or related hands-on field.
• Hands-on experience building, testing, modifying, or troubleshooting physical systems.
• Ability to read, interpret, modify and create technical drawings.
• Experience with materials, lighting, electronics, fabrication methods or related tools.
• Strong written documentation and cross-disciplinary communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support design and development of practical and technical special effects from concept through installation.
• Build, modify, and evaluate physical mockups and prototypes.
• Perform hands-on experimentation with materials, mechanical components, lighting, electronics.
• Document prototype results, decisions, testing outcomes, and lessons learned.
• Create and update technical drawings and design documentation using AutoCAD.
