Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Graduation from an approved unit clerk program or previous experience as a unit secretary is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a receptionist for the nursing unit; answers the telephone, takes and delivers messages, and assists patients, families, physicians, and visitors.
• Maintains an orderly environment in the nursing station.
• Maintains unit records and admission/dismissal log books.
• Prepares and transcribes physician orders for verification by registered nurse.
• Reviews and organizes patient charts with all forms properly identified.
• Performs clerical duties related to admissions, transfers, discharges and death, notifying appropriate staff.
• Completes requisition forms and enters orders into the computer for central supply items and diagnostic or therapeutic services.
