Imaging Technologist II - CT/MRI

Responsibilities

• Ensures operation of imaging equipment by following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshoots malfunctions, calls for repairs, maintains equipment inventories, evaluates new equipment and techniques.
• Transfers, positions, and instructs patients regarding the procedure to obtain and affect the desired imaging diagnostic results as specified by the physician.
• Maintains production and quality of images by following established standards, guidelines, and/or procedures; develops images, observes results, and makes necessary adjustments.
• Works as a member of the healthcare team including physicians, nurses and other health care professionals in diagnostic testing procedures.
• Adheres to medical and surgical asepsis and standard precautions as required per procedure.
• Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff, following established safety protocols.
• Maintains a safe and clean work environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
• Prepares room and equipment for patient.
• Prepares the patient and explains the procedure; observes the patient’s status before, during and after the procedure.
• Identifies patient service requirements by establishing rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.

Mammography specific duties

• Perform a variety of tasks involving the operation of mammographic radiographic equipment and other equipment/devices as appropriate. Position patients, using immobilization when necessary. Calculate exposure factors, assist physicians. Performs breast imaging procedures, which may include breast interventional procedures and ultrasound. Perform the quality control functions related to mammography. Assist in maintenance and compilation of statistical data. Evaluates exposed images for technical quality; processes images and prepares them for reading by the Radiologist.

CT Technologist specific duties

• Performs CT scan studies, obtains patient history, explains procedures, and addresses patient concerns. Performs venipuncture for IV and contrast administration, using aseptic technique.
• Performs routine CT computer functions such as archiving, copying, imaging and manipulation of image data. Practices radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of applicable exposure factors to minimize radiation to patient and staff.
• Assumes responsibility for implementing equipment repair/replacement, maintenance, and cleanliness. Observes patients’ status before, during and after the procedure; may perform any or all duties of a technical assistant. Ensures accurate maintenance of patients’ medical records and that patient records are treated as confidential information.
• Provides training to students, staff and physicians.
• Adheres to organizational and department safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards. Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
• Experience: One (1) year of related CT or Mammography experience preferred, but not required.
• Licensure or Certification: For CT Tech – Arizona Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT), American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), Arizona Certified CT Technologist (CTCT), and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Internal candidates must have a Student CT Permit (CTCTP) and train within the CT department for one (1) year to receive the full CTCT license after completion of training. For Mammography – Arizona CRT, ARRT, Certified Mammography Tech (CMT), and BLS certification required. Internal candidates must have a Student Mammography Permit (CMTP) and train within the Mammography department for one (1) year to receive the full CMT license after completion of training.
