Job summary

Kingman Regional Medical Center seeks a CT Technologist to perform diagnostic exams under the direction of the radiologist, delivering safe, high-quality patient care in the Imaging Services department.

You will position patients, set exposure factors, document exam times, verify patient identity and pregnancy status when needed, and adhere to AZDHS and ARRT standards while using appropriate shielding and maintaining equipment.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an ARRT program.
  • BLS through American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • CT certification through ARRT or within 9 months of hire.
  • Current CT licensure with AZDHS.
  • Current ARRT registration.

  • Administers ionizing radiation for diagnosis per AZDHS guidelines and positions the x-ray beam.
  • Uses professional judgment to adapt imaging procedures for quality outcomes.
  • Selects appropriate shielding and immobilization devices.
  • Reviews pertinent data and assesses the patient before contrast administration.
  • Verifies patient identity with two identifiers and checks pregnancy status when applicable.
  • Documents exam start/stop times and monitors patient and equipment during procedures.

Position Purpose

Under the direction of the radiologist, performs appropriate diagnostic exams and studies to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the Radiologist and the Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS), administers ionizing radiation for the purpose of diagnosis which includes positioning the x‑ray beam with respect to the patient, anatomically positioning the patient, selecting exposure factors, and initiating exposure.
  • Uses professional judgment to adapt imaging procedures to ensure quality diagnostic outcomes.
  • After reviewing all pertinent data and assessing the patient’s abilities and condition, selects the most appropriate patient care plan.
  • Selects appropriate shielding devices and appropriate immobilization devices.
  • Evaluates lab values prior to administering contrast media.
  • Assesses factors that may contraindicate the procedure, such as medications or insufficient patient preparation.
  • Reconfirms patient identification using two unique identifiers (Name and DOB) and verifies procedure requested. Verifies female patient pregnancy status when appropriate.
  • Able to recognize significant clinical information and historical facts, from the patient and from the medical record, which may impact the examination.
  • Monitors patient and equipment during procedures, accurately documents exam times (start and stop), patient reactions or problems, and reports concerns or issues immediately to supervisor.
  • Documents patient and exam occurrences in the appropriate Imaging software database, to include exam start and complete times.
Quality of Care
  • The technologist provides evidence-based care to prevent the development of a Healthcare Acquired Condition and hospital readmissions.
  • The technologist practices standard precautions during patient contact and while handling contaminated materials.
  • The technologist complies with CDC hand hygiene guidelines and works to reduce hospital acquired infections and other conditions.
  • Complies with all regulatory, organizational, and departmental statutes, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) Program

Certification

  • BLS through American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • CT certification through ARRT or required or within 9 months of hire

Licensure

  • Current CT registration and licensure by the Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS)
  • Current registration and licensure by the ARRT

Experience

N/A

Education Preferences

Education preferred from an educational institution approved by ARRT, Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JCERT), or the American College of Radiology (ACR).

Exposure Category I

Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.

Other potential hazards: exposure to chemical, biological, and radioactive substances; possible exposure to hostile individuals.

Work Requirements
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, compliant with KHI vision, mission, and values.
  • Able to manage technical business equipment i.e. phone, fax, computer etc.
  • Able to assist with the movement/manipulation of a patient and equipment weighing up to and over 300 lbs.
  • Able to care for patients with infectious diseases.
  • Able to sit, stand, walk, and bend for the duration of the scheduled shift.
  • Able to demonstrate concentration and visual and auditory acuity to watch monitors and follow instructions during exams.
