Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking a Tech Assistant to support radiology imaging, scheduling procedures, and clerical tasks. You will assist technologists and radiologists, prepare radiographs, and handle PACS-related duties.

The role requires working knowledge of RIS/HIS and hands-on experience with imaging workflows. Flexibility for varied shifts and occasional overtime is expected.

Qualifications

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Three (3) years of experience in a similar role and setting with demonstrated experience in a hospital Radiology Department setting.
  • Working knowledge of Radiology Information System (RIS) and Hospital Information System (HIS).
  • Quality control, Safety Control and/or Radioactive Waste experience.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule procedures and provide patient care and clerical support to technologists/radiologists.
  • Process radiographs, transport patients and prepare for radiographic procedures.
  • Download outside CDs into PACS and operate film digitizing equipment and CD burners.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of PACS, CR and DR technologies.
  • Contribute to cross training and staffing within the Imaging Department.

Job description

DESCRIPTION

The Tech Assistant provides technical, patient care and clerical support to technologists/radiologists by scheduling procedures, processing radiographs, transporting patients/preparing for radiographic procedures, preparing radiographs for interpretation, downloading outside CD's into the Picture Archival Computer System (PACS), operates film digitizing equipment, CD burners, document scanners and similar accessories. Demonstrates knowledge of computers and new technology such as PACS, Computerized Radiography (CR) and Digital Radiographs (DR).

Demonstrates knowledge of various imaging procedures to prepare patients and equipment. Contributes to the cost containment of maintaining established par levels with film orders, office supplies, forms, linen and other medical supplies. Contributes to and participates in work organization and scheduling selection, training and evaluation of staff as a member of work team. Participates in cross training to obtain seamless operations within the Imaging Department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Three (3) years of related experience with scheduling imaging exams/procedures or coordinating imaging exams/procedures through a multi-specialty service (e.g. Oncology or Surgery)
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, which may include day, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and some overtime if necessary for unexpected staffing issues.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $76,692 - $76,692 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $36.73 - $36.73

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
