Job summary

Daifuku Intralogistics America is seeking a Project Engineer to design industrial material handling storage systems from quote to final engineering. You will create detailed drawings and specifications for conveyors, rack, and AS/RS projects, collaborating with vendors and customers to ensure on-time delivery.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 3+ years of design and project execution experience, with proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field is required.
• 3+ years of engineering design and project execution experience.
• Experience in engineering or construction in material handling is preferred.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and MS Office/MS Projects/SharePoint/Visio.

Responsibilities

• Designs new automated and semi-automated material handling systems and customizes standard designs based on customer specs.
• Creates operation descriptions and ensures designs meet customer expectations.
• Produces approval, permit, installation, and fabrication drawings using AutoCAD.
• Obtains quotes from vendors and issues purchase orders; estimates costs.
• Monitors project schedule, engineering time, and material costs.
• Collaborates with other disciplines to ensure design fits within system constraints.
• Travel up to 30%.

The Project Engineer creates engineering designs for industrial material handling storage systems from the quote stage to final engineering. Typical projects include the design and installation of industrial steel storage rack, structural steel platforms, conveyor support structures, shelving, elevated walkways, and custom designed products in large distribution centers. Responsibilities

Essential Functions

• Performs diverse, specialized, and complex work involving significant accountability and decision-making responsibility
• Designs new automated and semi-automated material handling systems and proposes modifications to existing equipment; customizes standard designs based on customer specifications and scope documents
• Creates description of operation documents to ensure designs meet customer expectations
• Creates approval, permit, installation, and fabrication drawings using AutoCAD
• Obtains material and product quotes from vendors and issues purchase orders and estimates costs
• Monitors the project schedule, engineering time, and material costs
• Works with other disciplines on project team to make sure engineered solution and all equipment fit within system confines and constraints
• Travels up to 30%

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements

• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in engineering design and project execution
• Experience engineering or construction experience, preferably in the material handling industry

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements

• Proficient in AutoCAD; working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Projects, SharePoint and Visio
• Ability to speak Japanese is a plus
• Ability to handle multiple project assignments and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced results-oriented environment
• Ability to interface effectively with internal and external customers, vendors, consulting engineers, architects, and installers
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
