Job summary

Daifuku Co., Ltd. in Bolingbrook, IL, seeks an engineer to design and advance conveyor and automated material handling systems.

You will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, industrial, controls, software, and project management teams to meet safety, functionality, reliability, throughput, and cost goals. You will review designs for compliance, create drawings, source quotes, monitor schedules and budgets, and travel up to 20% to client sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (Mechanical or Industrial preferred) or equivalent experience.
• Experience, such as an internship, in the material handling industry.
• AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks proficiency; strong MS Office skills (Word/Excel/PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Participates in designing/enhancing conveyor systems and automated/material handling projects.
• Reviews designs for compliance with engineering principles, standards, and customer requirements.
• Coordinates activities related to technical developments, scheduling and testing issues.
• Creates approval, permit, and installation drawings using AutoCAD.
• Obtains material quotes and issues purchase orders.
• Monitors project schedule, engineering time, and material costs.
• Works with cross-disciplinary teams to fit equipment within system constraints.
• Travels up to 20% to measure sites and interface with customers.
• Contributes to continuous improvement and resolves engineering issues with customers/vendors.
• Complies with Daifuku QMS policies and drives sustainable process outputs.

Job description

Overview

Candidate will be responsible for engineering material handling systems. Each system is custom designed per client based on the optimal solution. This requires a team effort of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, controls, software, and project management. The team will develop and implement a design concept that satisfies the customer’s requirements for safety, functionality, reliability, throughput, and expense.

Responsibilities

• Participates in Designing/Enhancing conveyor systems as well as various automated and semi-automated material handling systems; may work on phases of a larger project or an entire smaller project
• Assists in the review of product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer requirements and specifications
• Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems
• Creates approval, permit, and installation drawings using AutoCAD
• Obtains material and product quotes from vendors and issues purchase orders
• Monitors the project schedule, engineering time, and material costs
• Works with other disciplines on the project team to make sure the engineered solution and all equipment fit within system confines and constraints
• Travels up to 20% to measure buildings, inventory equipment, commission systems, and interface with customers
• Participates in continuous improvement projects
• Assists in resolving engineering issues by working with customers, vendors, and other team members

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline, preferably Mechanical or Industrial, or equivalent experience
• Experience, such as an internship, within the material handling industry

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:

• AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks proficiency
• Microsoft Office skills – Word, Excel, Power Point, and Project.
• Ability to handle intermediate size project assignments with minimal supervision
• Knowledge of the material handling business and ability to assist across teams and divisions
• Ability to interface effectively with internal and external customers, vendors, consulting engineers, architects, and installers
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
