Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking an IDS technician to handle investigational drug products at University Hospital with occasional travel to IU North, IU West, and IU Fishers. The role ensures inventory integrity, prepares billing-related documents, and supports the IDS pharmacist under supervision.

The position requires a high school diploma and Indiana Pharmacy Technician license or intern status, plus national certification.

Qualifications

• Indiana Pharmacy Technician license or intern/extern if enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.
• Pharmacy Technician National Certification required unless enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy; 5+ relevant experience preferred.
• Requires absence of criminal history related to drug work.
• Requires strong mathematical calculation skills.
• Requires proficiency as a pharmacy technician within established procedures under limited supervision.
• Requires strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Requires strong customer service skills.
• Requires intermediate typing and Microsoft Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Receive investigational drug products from sponsors and confirm correct receipt.
• Document inventory transactions in drug accountability systems.
• Process damaged, expired, or dispensed products for returns.
• Distribute and stock in appropriate storage space.
• Assist with maintaining inventory and confirming counts and expirations.
• Assist with preparing invoices for billing.
• Under supervision, assist with internal auditing of dispensing records.
• Monitor refrigerators and freezers temperatures and environmental controls.
• Assist with compiling inventory or environmental reports for sponsors.
• Fill prescriptions or perform sterile and non-sterile compounding of study drugs.
• Prepare and package investigational drugs for shipping.
• Assist with medication reconciliation of IDS agents.
• Deliver IP to unit/patient when required.
• Submit drug destruction information to sponsor.
• Assist IDS pharmacist with site initiation and monitoring visits.
• Train technician staff and provide feedback for accuracy.
