Job summary

The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inc. is seeking a self-driven IT Security Engineer to lead cybersecurity operations on-site at Textron. You will act as a subject-matter expert, aligning security practices with business needs and supporting audits and automation initiatives.

Responsibilities include firewall configuration, vulnerability management, and mentoring junior staff, with a focus on DFARS/NIST and CMMC compliance. On-site, full-time position with collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent at time of hire.
  • Five (5) years of cybersecurity or network security field experience.
  • Hands-on experience ensuring and supporting DFARS, NIST SP800-171, NIST SP 800-53, CMMC (Level 2), and FedRAMP compliance.
  • Ability to automate manual tasks using approved automation frameworks.
  • Ability to support the Security Exceptions process with technical input and documentation.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to align cybersecurity practices with business needs.
  • Ability to lead internal audit preparation and ensured documentation meets standards.
  • Strong technical background in automation, audit readiness, and governance.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff or student teams.
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow and scripting (PowerShell,Python).
  • Familiarity with infrastructure concepts.
  • Experience using AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, AI-based analytics platforms).
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to interface across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Willingness and ability to work on-site full-time.

  • Manages and trains students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Hire Type: Full Time

Pay: Commensurate with experience

Work Schedule: Typically Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm;additional hours, including after-hours support of firewalls, maybe required to support business needs. Work is completed onsite andin-person.

Job Information

We are seeking a self-driven, highly motivated, hands-on ITSecurity Engineer to serve as a subject-matter expert(SME)/technical lead on our cybersecurity operations team. Thisindividual contributor role focuses on operational excellence andmaturity for different cyber operations processes, automationalignment, internal audit readiness (e.g., internal & externalaudits, including CMMC), and mentorship. The SME will work on-siteat Textron, collaborating with junior staff, student contractors,and technical teams, while interfacing with non-IT stakeholders tosupport secure, scalable cybersecurity operations.

Job Summary

Implements secure networking solutions to meet internal andexternal compliance requirements. Works in a cross-functional rolerequiring coordination with internal partners to monitor andcontrol company networks. Ensures least privilege is followed andnetworks are secured from unauthorized devices and excessiveaccess.
