Job description

At Caris, we understand that cancer is an ugly word - a word no one wants to hear, but one that connects us all. That's why we're not just transforming cancer care - we're changing lives. We introduced precision medicine to the world and built an industry around the idea that every patient deserves answers as unique as their DNA. Backed by cutting-edge molecular science and AI, we ask ourselves every day: "What would I do if this patient were my mom?" That question drives everything we do. But our mission doesn't stop with cancer. We're pushing the frontiers of medicine and leading a revolution in healthcare - driven by innovation, compassion, and purpose. Join us in our mission to improve the human condition across multiple diseases. If you're passionate about meaningful work and want to be part of something bigger than yourself, Caris is where your impact begins.

Position Summary

Caris Life Sciences serves hundreds of thousands of molecular cases a year and continues to grow at double-digit rates. Its molecular, imaging, and clinical-outcomes data support software that helps ensure a cancer patient's report is right, complete, and on time.

The Senior Software Engineer - Identity Resolution & Master Data Management designs, builds, and operates the production identity capabilities that regulated clinical workflows depend on: matching, linking, merging, and separating identity records under auditable controls, so that clinical information lands on the correct patient and provider records across complex healthcare data flows. The engineer improves resolution quality, data integrity, and operational reliability, and every change ships through controlled, testable delivery practices. The engineering environment supports advanced AI coding assistants and agentic workflows across design, implementation, and test generation. Characterization tests and golden-master replay serve as executable evidence, and onboarding is harness-first: the engineer builds or extends those tests to capture current behavior as repeatable validation evidence. Delivery runs on CI/CD, automated testing, application-level observability, and risk-based release governance aligned with current FDA Computer Software Assurance guidance. The specific technology stack is discussed during the interview process. Reporting to an Engineering Manager or Senior Engineering Manager in Clinical Software Engineering, this senior individual contributor leads technical delivery in the identity-resolution domain, participates in architecture and design decisions, and maintains software subject to SOX financial controls and FDA regulatory requirements.

Location

Irving, Texas (Dallas-Fort Worth), on-site/hybrid, minimum three days per week on campus; co-located with Caris's laboratory and clinical operations.

Job Responsibilities
  • Design, build, test, and maintain identity-resolution and MDM services for patient and provider data.
  • Develop and tune deterministic and probabilistic matching across names, addresses, dates of birth, contact information, identifiers, and other approved attributes.
  • Implement workflows to merge, unmerge, link, and separate records, with durable audit trails and safeguards for downstream clinical use.
  • Define and monitor resolution-quality, data-quality, performance, and reliability measures; investigate anomalies and strengthen controls.
  • Own the data models, APIs, and integration patterns that connect upstream and downstream clinical systems.
  • Partner with product management, data governance, clinical operations, compliance, and engineering to refine requirements and manage identity-related risks.
  • Write and maintain the technical record: design documents, architecture decision records, data-flow documentation, and operational runbooks.
  • Review code and submit work for review; contribute automated unit, integration, regression, and performance tests.
  • Automate recurring engineering and operational tasks: repeated manual steps become scripted, reviewed automation rather than standing process.
  • Instrument and support production services; participate in incident response, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action work.
  • Mentor less-experienced engineers through code review, pair programming, and knowledge sharing.
  • Work AI-first: use AI coding assistants and agentic workflows as daily practice across design, implementation, and test generation, with peer and engineering review as the quality gate.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and maintaining production software systems.
  • 3+ of those years designing or operating entity-resolution, record-linkage, MDM, or comparable identity systems in production.
  • 2+ of those years building system integrations through APIs, event-driven patterns, or batch data pipelines.
  • A track record of implementing matching logic across multiple identity attributes and evaluating it against measurable quality controls.
  • Experience designing data models and remediation workflows for duplicate, conflicting, or incomplete records.
  • Command of full SDLC practices, automated testing, code review, and controlled production delivery.
  • Operating experience with high-volume production services: observability, incident response, and root-cause analysis.
  • Hands-on fluency with AI coding assistants and agentic development workflows in real engineering work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in healthcare, clinical laboratory, diagnostics, or life sciences software environments.
  • Experience with MPI or enterprise identity-resolution platforms.
  • Familiarity with HL7 messaging and FHIR.
  • Depth in relational and document databases: SQL, indexing, and query optimization.
  • Experience applying graph databases, probabilistic methods, or ML to entity resolution.
  • Experience with CI/CD, automated regression testing, and production observability.
  • Experience implementing or operating controls aligned with SOX ITGCs or FDA requirements under 21 CFR.
  • Experience in CLIA- or HIPAA-governed environments.
  • Regulated-domain experience is preferred, not required.
