Job description

We are hiring for a position in IDD Special Education Teacher, type: Regular. Pay Rate: $50,000.00 per year; starting salary varies based on experience.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate the functioning level and needs of service users from an educational perspective using formal and informal diagnostic tools.
  • Participate as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team in the development of each service user’s individual program.
  • Work with and communicate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure provision of quality services.
  • Develop and implement educational training programs as established by the Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Conduct and monitor training and behavioral programs.
  • Design curriculum and activities for the classroom.
  • Document progress notes in service users’ records relative to objectives.
  • Revise plans as needed to facilitate ongoing progress on objectives.
  • Develop special educational activities appropriate for clients on your caseload.
  • Plan educational outings/field trips for service users and participate in them as appropriate.
  • Provide in‑services staff support to generalize training across settings and people.
  • Ensure supply of educational materials for use in the classroom to meet service users’ needs.
  • Work with representatives from other departments to address the total needs of each service user.
  • Assist in the implementation of programs developed by other clinicians.
  • Follow Department of Public Instruction regulations in the development and provision of educational services for service users.
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance Assessment system as assigned.
  • Assist nursing staff in ensuring the overall health care of service users.
  • Maintain medication administration certification and assist as needed in giving medication.
  • Complete forms and contact designated staff in the event of a service user accident or injury.
  • Assist in investigations related to unknown injuries or suspected abuse and neglect.
  • Maintain harmony among co‑workers, management, and service users.
  • Serve as a role model for service users.
  • Ensure dignity and respect for each service user by honoring privacy and confidentiality, age appropriateness, personal appearance, rules on interaction, and choices when appropriate.
  • Complete clinical paperwork as required.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • B.S. in Special Education or a related field in early childhood education.
  • A willingness to obtain birth‑to‑kindergarten certification upon request or as needed.
  • A valid driver’s license may be required.
  • Personal auto‑liability insurance is mandatory if transporting service users in a private or personal vehicle.
  • Maintain the requirements for annual or five‑year cycle certification through the Department of Public Instruction.
  • Maintain current/valid teaching certification/license or actively work toward the required credentials.
  • Maintain birth‑to‑kindergarten certification when obtained.
  • Maintain proficiency in company‑sponsored or required training.
  • Certifications that may be required include: CPR, First Aid, NCI A, NCI B, CPI, and/or others specified by state and federal standards, regulations and/or company policy.
  • #INDNC – Pre‑employment screening: complete a criminal background check.
  • Name checked in registries: OIG exclusions database, Child Abuse Registry, and Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities.
  • Drug testing.
  • Education verification and other credentialing based on position requirements.
  • Proof of employment history or references (if required).
  • Positions that require driving: proof of driver’s license, driver’s insurance, and vehicle when required for providing transportation.
