Job summary

MedVet Medical & Cancer Centers for Pets is seeking a Nursing & ICU Veterinary Technician to join our clinical team in New Orleans. The role involves supervising rounds, evaluating patients, coordinating with the care team, and educating clients on home care and medications for hospitalized patients.

Ideal candidates hold a State Registered Veterinary Technician license and have prior veterinary experience, especially in nursing or critical care, with strong calculation skills.

Qualifications

• State-registered veterinary technician license required or preferred.
• Prior veterinary experience required, nursing or critical care experience desired.
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, CRIs, unit conversions).

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information as necessary.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans and nursing care concerns.
• Provide client education including home care instructions, medications, and wellness updates.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside lab testing.
