ICU Veterinary Assistant - Full Time
The successful candidate will work with animal patients, monitoring temperature, pulse, and respiration. Responsibilities include overseeing IV fluid administration, walking animals outside, cleaning ward areas, stocking supplies, processing lab samples and medication orders, entering charges into the hospital information system, and assisting clinicians, veterinary technicians, and clinical students with animal patients in the Small Animal Emergency Medicine Unit of the Veterinary Medical Center.

Knowledge typically acquired through a high school education, with six months to one year of related veterinary practice experience, including maintaining accurate records, typing, and basic computer skills. An equivalent combination of education and experience is also acceptable.
Experience handling cats and dogs, knowledge of animal restraint for blood collection and IV catheter placement, positioning for X-rays, and IV fluid monitoring. Previous exposure to monitoring equipment such as IV pumps, EKG, pulse oximeters, and Doppler blood pressure is preferred.

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs individually or up to 150 lbs as a team.
Potential exposure to animals or specimens with Mycobacterium bovis, work with animals or unfixed tissue, and wearing a respirator (not including paper dust masks for comfort).
