Job summary

Inova Alexandria Hospital is seeking a dedicated Unit Secretary to join the Medical Surgical ICU team. This full-time role features a 12-hour night shift with varying days, and every other weekend and holidays, totaling 36 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or GED.
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) if also works as a Clinical Technician.

Responsibilities

• Perform clerical tasks to support unit operations and maintain records.
• Maintain physician and lab databases; update forms and supplies.
• Prepare unit charges for specific unit needs and ensure accuracy.
• Safeguard confidential patient information and maintain chart integrity.
• Create, update and file patient charts in the medical records system.
• Obtain, file test results and lab reports; update discharge times in charts.
• Answer call bells and communicate patient needs to staff; triage delays appropriately.
• Coordinate admissions, transfers and patient movement with nurses and transport staff.
• Greet patients and visitors; provide directions and non-clinical information and keep desk covered.
