Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System is hiring a Clinical Nurse for UMMS Staffing (USC). The role involves delivering safe, evidence-based, patient- and family-centered care across inpatient and ambulatory settings as part of an internal resource workforce.

The USC RN will be deployed to units based on need, must hold a Maryland RN license or be eligible via NLC, and maintain BLS plus unit-specific certifications. Compensation is $55/hr flat rate and requires ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Current and active RN license in Maryland or eligibility through the Nurse Licensure Compact.
• AHA Basic Life Support certification.
• Unit-specific certifications (ACLS, PALS, NRP, NIHSS) required based on role.
• Minimum of two years of recent acute care nursing experience in the past 12 months.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited nursing school.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct and indirect nursing care appropriate to the patient population and acuity.
• Performs comprehensive patient assessments and documents care in the electronic medical record.
• Collaborates with patients, families, charge nurses, nurse managers, and interdisciplinary team for continuity, safety, and quality.
• Safely administers medications and uses clinical equipment per policy and competency.
• Delegates and supervises nursing care activities within Nurse Practice Act and competencies.
• Maintains professionalism, adaptability, and effective communication across units.
• Adheres to evidence-based practice and regulatory standards to promote safety and outcomes.
• Identifies safety risks and participates in safety initiatives.
• Supports unit operations and staffing within validated competencies.
• Participates in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
• Maintains current RN licensure and required certifications; completes annual education.
• Engages in ongoing professional development to maintain clinical competence.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
