Job summary

MedVet in New Orleans, LA is seeking a Nursing & ICU Veterinary Technician to join our fast-growing emergency and specialty team. You will assist with patient assessment, anesthesia induction, IV catheter placement, phlebotomy, and in-house lab work.

The role emphasizes teamwork, client education, and coordination with the DVM to deliver high-quality care in a busy hospital setting. State-registered technician license preferred; prior critical care experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• State-registered veterinary technician license preferred.
• Prior veterinary experience required; critical care experience is a plus.
• Proficient in drug calculations and unit conversions.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Partner with care team regarding treatment plans and client communication.
• Provide client education on home care, medications and wellness updates.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside testing.

We are looking for:

Nursing & ICU Veterinary Technician

Never a dull moment in the Nursing department! Our patients need constant supervision to ensure treatment plans are being executed. This department is perfect for someone who can identify patient distress and react accordingly, enjoys phlebotomy, placing IV catheters, assisting with recovery and client follow up and education.

What you’ll do:

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information as necessary
• Evaluating incoming patients and prioritizing based on assessment
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns
• Provide client education including, but not limited to: home care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions) and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Who you are:

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred
• Prior veterinary experience required, previous nursing or critical care experience desired
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
