Job summary

Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, ME is seeking a Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join its ICU team. This full-time role supports intensivists, delivers evidence-based care, and participates in a multidisciplinary approach to critically ill patients.

The APP will perform assessments, develop treatment plans, and collaborate with physicians, nurses, and specialists to optimize outcomes. A Master’s degree, NP/PA licensure in Maine, and BLS/ACLS are required.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
• Current Maine licensure as an NP or PA (or eligibility for licensure).
• National certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
• BLS and ACLS certification required.
• Critical care or ICU experience preferred.
• Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity, team-based environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care to critically ill patients in the ICU setting.
• Conduct patient assessments including history, physical examinations, and ongoing clinical evaluations.
• Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with attending intensivists and the critical care team.
• Manage acute and chronic conditions affecting critically ill patients including respiratory failure, sepsis, shock, and multi-organ dysfunction.
• Perform bedside procedures such as central line placement, arterial line insertion, intubation assistance, and other ICU-related procedures.
• Interpret diagnostic tests including laboratory results, imaging, and hemodynamic monitoring.
• Coordinate care with consulting services, nursing staff, respiratory therapy, and other healthcare professionals.
• Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds and contribute to patient care planning.
• Document patient encounters and clinical decisions accurately in the electronic medical record.
• Provide education and support to patients and families regarding treatment plans and prognosis.
