Job summary

Community Access is seeking a Per-Diem Peer Respite Worker to provide 1:1 and group peer support to guests in the Intensive Crisis Residence (ICR). You will help deescalate crises and promote recovery-oriented practices within a home-like environment with 24-hour peer support.

You will work with the ICR team to promote a welcoming atmosphere, document progress, and assist guests with crisis-management and recovery-oriented activities, including follow-up and community reintegration.

Qualifications

  • Have lived experience with the mental health system and willingness to share personal experience appropriately and respectfully.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including empathic listening, responding.
  • Ability to be mindfully present and have respect for, and a high level of comfort around people experiencing psychiatric crisis.
  • Commitment to recovery orientated practice and the ability to utilize critical thinking, problem-solving and de-escalation skills.
  • Desirable to have work experience in a behavioral health setting and knowledge of recovery models.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mentoring and supportive relationships with ICR guests to promote connection and hope.
  • Engage guests in individual and group peer support to identify and develop crisis-management skills.
  • Collaborate with the full ICR team to promote a welcoming, home-like atmosphere and conduct group activities.
