Job summary

American Electric Power Co. is seeking a skilled technician to support electrical, electronic, and instrument control systems at our Tulsa site.

Responsibilities include locating faults, calibrating relays, maintaining control instrumentation, and performing required HV/low voltage work. You will diagnose, repair, and test complex control systems, while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

Associates degree in Electronic or Electrical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation Controls, or related field.
Two years related work experience in electrical systems, electronics and/or instrumentation controls.
Completion of four to five year electrical journeyman apprenticeship program or equivalent training may substitute degree.
Must pass HireVue Plant Maintenance Worker assessment.
Knowledge of process control instrumentation and plant safety practices.

Responsibilities

Locate and repair defects in control systems with electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, or hydraulic components.
Inspect, adjust, repair, and calibrate electrical relays.
Install, calibrate and maintain single- and multi-element control systems.
Inspect components and replace faulty parts in instrument and control systems.
Perform maintenance on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment.
Troubleshoot PLC/SLC logic control systems and build basic programming logic.
Operate and maintain equipment up to 6.9 kV and read complex prints/specifications.
Record data from tests, prepare graphs, curves and reports.
Be available for callouts and comply with safety procedures.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1) Locate and repair defects in control systems involving electrical, solid state electronic, mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic components.

2) Inspect, adjust, repair and calibrate electrical relays.

3) Install, calibrate and maintain single-element control systems and multiple-element control systems.

4) Inspect the various component parts of instrument and control systems; make adjustments or replacements to remedy faults in those not functioning properly.

5) Perform required maintenance and installation on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment.

6) Perform necessary functions to place in or remove from service, instrument and control systems undergoing study, tests or adjustments.

7) Troubleshoot PLC/SLC Logic Control Systems, Force Contacts, locate hardware I/O addresses. Build basic programming logic.

8) Dismantle, overhaul, reassemble and install electrical equipment. Work with low voltage through 6.9kv

9) Compile and record data relating to tests and investigations and prepare graphs, curves and reports.

10) Perform other job duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education requirements are listed below: Associates degree in Electronic or Electrical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation Controls, or associated degree. An equivalent combination of related education and work experience in electrical systems, electronics, and/or instrumentation controls may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Work Experience requirement listed below: An equivalent combination of education and experience would include post high school education at a college, vocational school, or military training in electrical systems, electronics and/or instrumentation controls or completion of a four to five year electrical journeyman apprenticeship program, plus a minimum of two years related work experience.

Must have performed the duties of, and maintained all the qualifications of ICE Technician III and must be able to pass an examination and/or demonstration as determined by the Company to advance to ICE Technician II.

Must have sufficient experience in the use of power plant instrumentation to have a working knowledge of process control.

Must have the working knowledge and skill needed to calibrate and adjust plant instruments and controls, and be capable of detecting and making repairs to complex control systems.

Must be able to read, interpret and work from moderately complex prints and specifications.

Must have a working knowledge of equipment and clearance procedures, and the rules, safety practices and procedures applicable to the work.

Must obtain and maintain all necessary certifications and licenses as required.

Must be available for callout.

PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS:

Climb ladders & stairs a number of times each day. Use fine dexterity to move switches & controls to precise locations. Detect color on alarms, equipment & other devices Hear announcements on the Plant PA system, and to hear abnormal sounds of plant equipment. Communicate plant information by phone, in person or by radio Work on heights, grating, platforms and catwalks. Exert up to 50 lbs of pressure to manually turn off valves. Able to stand or walk continuously for up to 8 hours.

Geographic Proximity - Must reside within daily commuting distance of the assigned work location in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Compensation

$35.43 - $53.05

The Physical Demand Level for this job is: M – Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
