Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking a dedicated Ice Floor Technician to prepare and maintain the facility ice for hockey and figure skating events. Under supervision, you will oversee installation, resurfacing, and safety of the ice surface.

The role requires physical stamina, ability to work irregular hours, and a valid GA driver's license. Strong collaboration with operations staff and adherence to safety protocols are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required, with 1+ year ice floor experience.
  • Completion of ice making courses is a strong plus.
  • Must understand ice installation, prep, maintenance techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee ice installation including freezing, base color, lines, and logos.
  • Prepare ice for practices and events, remove debris, check depth, resurface.
  • Operate ice-resurfacer and ice-edger.
  • Repair and build ice around goals and edges.
  • Maintain glass and dasher walls; monitor temperature and humidity.
  • Cover ice for events requiring a regular floor surface.
  • Assist and direct staff during installation and maintenance.
  • Respond to alarms from building automation and life safety systems.
  • Work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Summary

Under general supervision of the Arena Operations & Ice Manager, prepare and maintain facility ice floor for all hockey practices, hockey games and other ice events, such as figure skating exhibitions.


Requirements

Responsibilities

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



  • Oversee installation of ice, which includes freezing floor; painting base color, lines, and logos; and building up the ice sheet.

  • Prepare ice for all practices, games, and other ice events. Duties include removing debris; checking ice depth; scraping, edging, and resurfacing ice.

  • Operate and maintain the ice-resurfacer and ice-edger.

  • Repair and build ice. Must be familiar with techniques for repairing and building ice around hockey goals and other areas that lose ice.

  • Maintain glass and dasher walls.

  • Monitor temperature and humidity levels.

  • Maintain ice and lay water as needed.

  • Prepare and cover ice for events that require a regular floor surface.

  • Operate and control some equipment via computers.

  • Assist with general employees who assist with installation and maintenance of ice.

  • Oversee and direct employees who assist with installation and maintenance of ice.

  • Respond to visual and audible alarms from building automation and life safety systems.

  • Assist the Operations Department with the conversion process of preparation for events as needed.

  • Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays as needed.


Skills and Abilities:

Position requires the following skills and abilities:



  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Possess any licenses, certificates or training required by local, state, or national authorities for the operation of the equipment found in the facility.

  • Use and properly care for ice equipment, including ice-resurfacer and ice-edger with multiple manual controls, gears, and foot pedals. This requires good vision, hearing, and dexterity.

  • Demonstrate knowledge in the practice and procedures related to ice installation, preparation, and maintenance; typical methods and techniques for maintaining, repairing, and building ice; and treatment of water and hydraulic equipment.

  • Possess a thorough understanding of the operational procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology, event-related services, and technical requirements for the types of events anticipated at the facility.

  • Follow and adhere to all safety precautions, rules, regulations, risk management and emergency procedures.

  • Meet the physical demands of the job, which include being able to get in and around the facility (requires personal mobility) and working from various heights. Must perform strenuous physical duties at times, including lifting, carrying, moving, and climbing.

  • Be able to withstand moderate to loud noises.

  • Operate portable radio.

  • Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with others in both oral and written form.

  • Organize and prioritize to meet deadlines.

  • Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results.

  • Work as a team member as well as independently, exercising judgment and initiative.

  • Maintain an effective working relationship with clients, guests, employees, and others encountered in the course of employment.

  • Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and be able to legally operate a motor vehicle in the state of Georgia.


Education and Experience

High school diploma or G.E.D. and at least one year ice floor and operations experience. Completion of accredited courses from an ice making technology school is considered a strong plus, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
